Sharing experiences to innovate better: the case of Manresa and Girona

The DigiCanvis Observatory was born with a very clear objective: to facilitate that city councils learn about innovative experiences and good practices from other administrations and adapt them to their reality. A recent example of this impact can be found in the City Council of Manresa.

Within the framework of the Barcelona Provincial Council's Innovation Caravan, theManresa City Council has shared several artificial intelligence projects which is being developed to improve municipal services. Among them, a tool for automatically classifying complaints and suggestions stands out.

During the development of the tool, the Manresa team learned, through the DigiCanvis Observatory, the experience of theGirona City Council in the automatic classification of generic instances with AIGirona used a different and simpler technical approach than, in the earlyeres tests, it obtained better results than the model that Manresa was testing. This experience helped the Manresa City Council to contrast its approach and explore other models until achieving similar quality. The two city councils got in touch, shared information about the functioning of their solutions and exchanged the lessons learned.

This case exemplifies the value of sharing knowledge between administrations. The experiences published in the Observatory not only give visibility to innovative initiatives, but also become references that other local entities can adapt and evolve according to their needs. Reusing does not always mean implementing the same technology: it also means taking advantage of the knowledge acquired by other administrations to avoid mistakes, compare alternatives and improve one's own solution.

Each new shared project contributes to building a more collaborative administration, where good practices multiply and accelerate the digital transformation of the entire local public sector. When one initiative inspires another, the benefit goes far beyond the municipality that promoted it: it is the entire ecosystem that advances.

If your city council is also developing an innovative initiative, we encourage you to share it in the DigiChanges Observatory so that it can inspire other administrations: Propose a DigiCanvi case to us
