Barcelona adopts an “ethical, democratic and sustainable” AI strategy

Barcelona City Council promotes a new artificial intelligence (AI) strategy based on a triple perspective: ethical, democratic and sustainable. This initiative, presented by Mayor Jaume Collboni, representa an expansion of the government measure approved in 2021 and seeks to turn the city into a technological benchmark.

The total investment amounts to 9,4 million euros. during the next few three yearsThe goal is to put AI at the service of citizens and improve municipal management. In this way, Barcelona wants to approach the level of investment of large technological cities such as Seattle or London.

6 axes, 21 objectives, 37 specific actions

This “Strategy for the ethical, democratic and sustainable adoption of artificial intelligence” is based on 21 strategic objectives that are transformed into 37 specific actions to be developed over the next three years, organized in the following 6 axes: a digitalized City Council oriented towards the ethical and democratically responsible use of AI and data; digitalized, personalized and productive services; democratization of the use of AI by citizens; AI ecosystem in the city of Barcelona; sustainability, and democratic governance of the use of AI.
