From August 21st, people who register with theidCAT Mobile with video identification can receive the validation code via WhatsApp. Until now, this code was sent exclusively by SMS. Now, the user can request to receive the code via WhatsApp once 30 seconds have passed since the initial SMS was sent.
Improvement for registrations from abroad
The incorporation of WhatsApp is especially useful for people registering from outside the State, where SMS coverage may be limited. This functionality responds to the strategy of the AOC to guarantee the digital inclusion and the respect for the rights of citizens, ensuring that everyone can obtain or make use of theidCAT Phone, wherever you live. In fact, more than 20% of people abroad had issues receiving SMS codes, which prevented them from obtaining theidCAT Mobile or carry out procedures with this mechanism with the Catalan administrations.
WhatsApp is already used for digital authentication
Sending codes via WhatsApp was already available for people who use theidCAT Mobile as identification mechanism and digital signatureThus, since 2023, they have been sent more than 350.000 messages via WhatsApp and more than 55.000 calls to facilitate authentication for carrying out procedures and procedures with Catalan public administrations.
Now, this functionality is also extended to registration process with video identification, expanding the possibilities of access and use.
