The European Commission will allocate €1.300 billion for the deployment of critical technologies that are strategically important for Europe's future and the continent's technological sovereignty through the Commission's work programme. Digital Europe Program (DIGITAL) for 2025-2027.
The work program focuses on the deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) and its adoption by businesses and public administration, cloud and data, cyber resilience and digital capabilities.
The key priorities of the DIGITAL work programme are:
- Improve the availability and accessibility of generative AI applications, including in the healthcare and care sectors. The available funds will be used to test immersive environments, known as “virtual worlds”, implement the AI Law and deploy energy-efficient data commons. These measures are key to implementing the initiative AI Factories to develop generative AI models for businesses and the public sector.
- Support for European Digital Innovation Centers (EDIH). This is a network of centres that provides businesses and the public sector with access to technical expertise and technology testing, as well as advice, training and skills to adopt the latest technologies. It will promote the widespread adoption of AI in public and private organisations across Europe.
- Developing the award-winning initiative Destination Earth, which is working to build a digital model of the Earth to support climate adaptation and disaster risk management. The funding will build a more powerful model that can be accessed by more researchers.
- Boosting cyber resilience. Cybersecurity solutions, such as the EU Cybersecurity Reserve, will improve the resilience and security of critical infrastructure, including hospitals and submarine cables.
- Develop the capacity of EU education and training institutions in digital skills so that they can nurture and attract talent, while boosting the advanced skills of the European workforce.
- Facilitating the new architecture of the EU digital identity portfolio and the European trust infrastructure, as well as promoting its adoption in the Member States.
- Stimulate the transformation of the public sector through the development of efficient, high-quality and interoperable digital public services.
Innovation will also be accelerated by the new Strategic Technology Platform for Europe (STEP), which awards the STEP quality seal to promising projects to improve opportunities to access public and private funding.

The next DIGITAL calls are expected to be published in April 2025, with additional calls to be published throughout the rest of the year. The Funding and Tendering Portal of the EU can be consulted to obtain information about open calls.
The calls are open to companies, public administrations and other entities from EU member states, EFTA/EEA countries and DIGITAL associated countries.
