The Cybersecurity Agency of Catalonia has published theCybersecurity Trends Report for the 2nd half of 2020 that it makes an extensive review of the main cyber threats detected in the world and takes into account qualified sources from entities, manufacturers, organizations and professionals in the field of cybersecurity,
The report highlights that, to offset the fall in the amount of bailouts in the last quarter of 2020, cybercriminals target 400% larger companies and incorporate new extortion factors such as the threat of leakage. data or conducting distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks to disable communications on the Internet.
These DDoS attacks have increased by 151% during the first half of 2020, compared to the same period in 2019. In addition, they have increased in bandwidth, duration and complexity. Cybercriminals are incorporating new network protocols, so that the sent data packets look like legitimate requests and collapse the resources of the attacked server.
Cybercrime has also shown a special predilection for attacking the healthcare sector with hijacking software, with a significant increase in the last two months of 2020. The reason for this increase is that, in the current health crisis, the healthcare sector is especially essential and, in the event of an incident of ransomware, the odds of being forced to pay a ransom are higher.
