We celebrate World Open Data Day with two new features on the AOC open data portal

On the occasion of World Open Data Day, which is celebrated on March 10, 2026, from the AOC we share two improvements that will soon be incorporated into the open data portals linked to our Open Government service.

1. Integration of the DCAT extension: more interoperability, more reuse

We will soon incorporate the DCAT extension into CKAN-based portals.
This international standard, promoted by the European Union, optimizes the description and exchange of data catalogs and brings relevant benefits:

  • Interoperability between portals and administrations
  • More visibility and better indexing of datasets
  • Facilitating reuse by third parties
  • Compliance with European standards on open data

In addition to the integration of DCAT, open data portals will progressively align with DCAT-AP-ES, the official profile of Spain for describing data sets and services. This model, which is being integrated into the new NTI‑RISP, adapts the European standard DCAT-AP 2.1.1 to the state context and also incorporates the definition of High Value Datasets (HVD).

Adopting DCAT‑AP‑ES will allow:

  • Improve interoperability with datos.gob.es and with regional and local catalogs.
  • Comply with the future state regulatory framework on metadata.
  • Offer more searchable and better described datasets, especially those of high value.

This evolution will make data more describable, more connectable and more useful for citizens, companies and administrations.

If you want more details about the model, you can consult the Technical implementation guide and model of the DCAT-AP-ES application profile.

2. New table display with a much more usable experience

We will also incorporate a new tabular data visualization model based on the format DataTables, which becomes standard from CKAN 2.11 and brings a notable improvement in usability and navigation.

The main innovations are:

  • Instant search within the table
  • Sort by columns with one click
  • Clear and intuitive pagination
  • Better performance with large datasets
  • Optimized experience on mobile devices

This new view facilitates a more fluid and accessible exploration, both for technical profiles and for anyone interested ineresbased on public data.

We continue to move forward with you.

With these improvements, which will be available during the first quarter, we reinforce the AOC's commitment to offering more interoperable, more useful, and more focused open data portals on the people's experience.
