The European Commission has published a Code of Good Practice on the marking and labeling of content generated by artificial intelligenceIt is a voluntary tool that helps companies and organizations comply with their obligations. transparència of the future Artificial Intelligence Law, which will enter into force on August 2, 2026.
Transparència required
The new regulations will require that deepfakes and content generated or manipulated by AI on topics of public interest are clearly identified and that users are informed when they interact with AI systems, like chatbots.
The goal is to avoid deception and make it easier for people to recognize artificial content.
What does the code include?
The code has been developed with experts and more than 180 sector stakeholders, and has two parts:
- Suppliers: they must guarantee that AI-generated content (text, image, audio, video) is detectable and technically marked
- Users or implementers: they have toclearly label generated content, especially if it has not been reviewed by humans
These measures complement the AI Law and promote responsible use of technology.
Voluntary membership
Organisations can adhere to the code by signing an official form. This will allow them to demonstrate compliance with the rules, reduce administrative burden and gain more legal certainty across the EU. The list of adhering organisations will be published on July 2026.
