A decade of recognition: the special awards to celebrate
The Barcelona Provincial Council has presented, within the framework of the conference “Artificial intelligence in the local world: Local.IA", held on April 3 in the Francesca Bonnemaison Space; theLocal.IA strategy, a set of solutions and services that will allow local authorities in the Barcelona area of up to 20.000 inhabitants to make practical, regulatory, ethical and efficient use of AI and that will boost the Smart Local Government Network, recently created.
Local governments must manage inputs on the impact of AI in the different areas of their organization in parallel with the deployment of applicable regulations, to regulate this deployment within their organizations, both in terms of the impact on internal processes and on the provision of services to citizens.
With the aim of specifying what regulatory ecosystem, instruments and assistance are available to local entities, the Barcelona Provincial Council is committed to the creation of a Bank of good practices for implementing AI in the local world, a complete, open, in-form corpust of White Paper, which helps to digest the diversity of sources and simplify their applicability.
This initiative is incorporated into the model of technical assistance and continuous support provided by the Barcelona Provincial Council, in its practical conception of Municipality360.
This conference, aimed at mayors, councilors, experts and technicians from local entities and their public sector, focused on:
Let's talk about the future: the drive of the provincial governments towards the Smart Local Government Network
The director of the AOC, Miquel Estape, has participated in the round table "Let's talk about the future: the drive of the provincial governments towards the Smart Local Government Network”, presenting theinstitutional agreement of this network, signed by the Generalitat de Catalunya, the AOC, Localret, the Barcelona City Council and the provincial councils of Barcelona, Lleida, Girona and Tarragona within the framework of the Digital Government Congress, as well as the AOC Data Space, a comprehensive and turnkey service of technology, data governance and support aimed at the local world. This round table, which also included the participation of representatives of the four provincial councils, presented the challenges of the network and the impetus that will be given to it by the provincial councils.
The basis of the agreement on which the network is based is the use of the large volume of data available to the signatory institutions, to be more efficient, agile and easy, to develop innovative, personalized and proactive services. The agreement itself presents challenges for the present and future strategy, whether on the basis of the information systems deployed in the territory, as well as the governance of the Smart Local Government Network itself or the common and collaborative data space, aimed at providing "turnkey" services.
In their intervention at the table, the AOC presented the agreement and the Data Space and the representatives of the four Catalan provincial councils explained their position regarding the network in everything they expect to receive as a turnkey service, as well as in what they think the Provincial Councils can do to facilitate the deployment of the model.
You can watch the recording of this session and the rest of the day's sessions at Local.IA Conference distribution list.
Smart Government Network of Catalonia
The Network's mission is to ensure that no local administration is left behind in harnessing the potential of data and AI to improve public services.
The objective is to guarantee that all town halls, county councils, provincial councils and other local entities have access to knowledge (“insights”) necessary to make informed decisions and use data-driven services to be more efficient, agile and inclusive. In addition, solutions will be developed that automate administrative tasks and promote innovative personalized and proactive services.
La Xarxa, made up of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the AOC, Localret, the four provincial councils and the Barcelona City Council, aims to provide practical services that allow political and technical leaders of local entities to stop worrying about technology and, from a local perspective, focus on its great value: identifying the needs of citizens and making the best decisions based on evidence.
