You can now order yours. idCAT Certified with the MiDNI mobile application (digital ID)

From April 2025 and according to the RD 255 / 2025, the identity of the person requesting theidCAT Certified with the Digital ID, provided it is shown through theofficial application MyDNI, an application that allows you to carry your DNI on your mobile phone and has the same legal validity as the physical one within Spain.

Well, still it is not mandatory that entities (public or private) accept the digital ID through the MiDNI app, it will be from 2 of April of 2026This means that:

  • The sector has time to adapt to new digital tools.
  •  Registration Entities (ER) idCAT they can continue requesting the physical document as before.

What documentation is needed to apply for theidCAT Certificate? According to current regulations, to obtain theidCAT Certificate required:

  • Be over 18 years old (can be requested from the day after turning 18).
  • Have an address of e-mail.
  • Submit a valid identification document (not expired). Accepted:
    • Spanish ID card (on paper or through the official MiDNI application)
    • ID card from any member country of the Schengen area.
    • Passport.
    • Foreigner Identity Card (TIE).
    • European Union Citizen Registration Certificate (accompanied by an official document with a photograph, such as a passport or ID card from the country of origin) 

If you have a ID card or passport from another countrys (outside the Schengen area), it will be necessary to provide, in addition to the original, a photocòpia.

Other important considerations

  • The TIE (Foreigner Identity Card) is used to prove the NIE if it has a photograph. If it is in the process of being renewed, its validity is extended according to regulations.
  • The EU Citizen Registration Certificate It must always be accompanied by a document with a photograph.
  • Only the identification documents listed above are accepted. for the issuance of theidCAT Certificate
