March 6, 2025 is celebrated open data day and to promote access and usability of open data, initiatives from around the world are being held throughout the week to highlight its potential. This year, this international event will take place from 1 to 7 March 2025, just one week before the Digital Government 2025 Congress (CGD2025). This coincidence allows us to link global reflections on the use of open data with the specific digital transformation strategies that will be discussed at the congress.
Open Data Day is a global initiative that has been promoting the application of open data in different sectors for 12 years. This event offers the opportunity to demonstrate the benefits of this data and encourage its adoption in governments, businesses and society. In this context, CGD2025 will include several sessions dedicated to open data and its application in digital governance.
Featured sessions on open data at CGD2025
The Digital Government 2025 Congress will host several presentations focused on the use of open data to improve transparency, efficiency and inter-administrative collaboration.
- The round table "Open Government in action: local resources and experiences for transparent administration", moderated by the Director General of Open Government of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Lara Torres Lledo, will delve into the tools and good practices to promote transparency and participation at the local level. The AOC Consortium will present the open government resources available to local authorities, and outstanding experiences will be shared such as the project Municipal GO of the Barcelona Provincial Council, the management model of the transparency portal of the Alella City Council and the good practices implemented in the Santa Eulàlia de Ronçana City Council.
- After learning about these resources and experiences, the session “Transforming public governance with data: the Infogovern case” will showcase the Infogovern project of the Santa Coloma de Gramenet City Council, a platform that visualizes the execution of government programs and their alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This tool improves transparency and citizen participation in public management.
- As part of the tenth anniversary of the Open Government Network of Catalonia, the session “The Open Government Network of Catalonia (XGOC), 10 years of collaboration between Catalan administrations” will review the main successes achieved by this network, highlighting the collaboration between administrations and municipal entities in the promotion of transparency and good governance.
- An important aspect is the use we make of the data. “Why do we store so much data? Let's use it!” will focus on the Directory of Companies and Establishments of the Generalitat de Catalunya, which allows for more efficient management of economic information and facilitates proactive services for companies. Use cases such as Sant Feliu de Llobregat and the Department of Health will exemplify how data reuse can optimize administrative processes.
- At the round table "Collaborative data governance model for efficient administrations", moderated by Localret, will discuss collaborative governance strategies to improve the quality and security of public data. Experiences from the Generalitat, the Barcelona Provincial Council and the Prat de Llobregat City Council will be presented, highlighting methodologies and models for practical application.
- Finally, the session “Data-oriented local governments: practical experiences and the collaborative Data Space” will bring together representatives of Catalan city councils to share initiatives that have transformed public management through the efficient use of open data.
These sessions will highlight how open data can improve governance, foster transparency and generate a positive impact on society. Don't miss the opportunity to learn first-hand about the initiatives that are transforming the public sector through data.
