The European Commission receives the final version of the Code of Good Practice for General AI

The European Commission has received the final version of the Code of Good Practice in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for general use, a voluntary tool developed by 13 independent experts, with input from over 1,000 stakeholderseresstakeholders, including model providers, small and medium-sized enterprises, academics, AI safety experts, rights holders and civil society organizations.

The Code is designed to help the industry comply with the AI Act's rules on general-purpose AI, which will come into effect on August 2, 2025.

The Commission's Artificial Intelligence Office makes the rules enforceable one year later for new models and two years later for existing models. This aims to ensure that general-purpose AI models introduced to the European market, including the most powerful ones, are safe and transparent.

Code with three distinct chapters

The Code consists of three chapters: Transparència i Copyright, which refer to all providers of general-purpose AI models, and Security and protection, which are only relevant to a limited number of providers of the most advanced models.

Once the Code is approved by the Member States and the Commission, providers of general-purpose AI models that voluntarily sign the Code can demonstrate compliance with the relevant obligations of the AI Law by adhering to the Code. In this way, signatories to the Code will benefit from a reduced administrative burden and greater legal certainty compared to providers demonstrating compliance with other mandates.eres.
