The Generalitat de Catalunya constitutes the Artificial Intelligence Commission

The Generalitat de Catalunya has established the initial session of the Artificial Intelligence Commission, the strategic body created to organize the responsible implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) in the public services of the Generalitat de Catalunya.

The Commission was established with the representaof senior officials from all government departments and the management of various public sector entities, and it is planned that they may incorporate other public administrations in Catalonia, as well as experts in the field. This body becomes a transversal tool, defined in the government agreement of last February 27, and has the following functions: establish actions to promote and supervise AI in the public services of the Government of the Generalitat, evaluate the impact of AI in this area, ensure compliance with regulations and good ethical practices as well as the coordination between the responsible bodies.

The Secretary of Telecommunications and Digital Transformation, Marc Realp i Campalans, presided over the constituent meeting, in which he was tasked with jointly drawing up an AI implementation strategy in the Generalitat, with the aim of "turning Catalonia into a benchmark in the reliable use of AI""following the principles of transparència, responsibility, equity, security, sustainability and roots in the country".

In parallel with the general definition of the strategy, the Commission has activated working groups to define some specific and urgent actions. On the one hand, the development of a risk guide has begun, which standardizes for the entire Generalitat the procedure for identifying, evaluating, mitigating and monitoring events arising from the use of AI. On the other hand, the content of a register is also being defined that will contain information on the Generalitat's AI systems and will allow it to be communicated to citizens as a guarantee of transparència.
