Experiences of Digicanvis that take advantage of artificial intelligence in local administrations
Digital transformation is key for local administrations. Artificial intelligence (AI) and robotic process automation (RPA) can bring significant improvements in the efficiency and quality of public services. In the Digicanvis Observatory we highlight several initiatives carried out by Catalan councils that take advantage of these technologies.
These are initiatives that show how the use of AI and RPA allows local administrations to achieve greater operational efficiency, improve the management of public spaces, increase the transparency of public information and make better decisions based on the data.
AI and RPA technologies can improve the operational efficiency of public administrations. Automating administrative and repetitive tasks reduces processing time and minimizes human error. In addition, it allows staff to focus on activities of greater added value, improving the overall productivity of the organization.
Girona City Council has achieved a saving of 91 hours/year thanks to the use of RPA to automate the processing of vehicle technical data sheets. This automated process allows the council to process a large volume of data quickly and accurately. The average time spent processing each record has dropped from 4 minutes to 10 seconds, and data errors have decreased by 100%.
AI and RPA can improve the management of public spaces, enabling more informed decision-making about the distribution and use of resources. This is especially useful in high-traffic spaces, where user safety and comfort are a priority.
Through a system of cameras equipped with AI, Salou City Council can know in real time the influx of people on the beaches of the municipality. This information allows city council officials to design policies and plans to encourage the rational use of beaches and guarantee the safety and comfort of bathers.
Transparency and accessibility of information are fundamental for public administrations. Automation through RPA allows data to be published consistently and on time, ensuring that citizens have access to up-to-date information. This fosters trust and citizen participation, and facilitates innovation.
LGavà City Council uses the RPA to update 29 sets of open data on a daily basis and 4 on a monthly basis. This update is carried out immediately, without human intervention and ensuring the accuracy of the information.
Data-driven decisions are essential for efficient city management. By using AI to obtain, analyze and process data, administrations can identify patterns and trends that help make more informed decisions. This makes it possible to optimize public services, improve urban planning and offer citizens a better quality of life.
The use of data analysis tools for the management of a tourist destination is an example of how these technologies can improve decision-making. In 2022, Sitges City Council collected 62.205 opinions on 768 city resources to carry out a more sustainable management of the municipality and improve the services offered to residents and visitors.
