Audit of the Digital Certification Service and new section on the support website
The European Parliament and the Council of the European Union have reached an agreement to promote the new European digital identity that will allow citizens and businesses "universal access" to secure and reliable electronic identification and authentication.
All citizens of the European Union will be offered the possibility to have an EU digital identity portfolio linked to their national digital identities to access public and private online services with full security and protection of personal data throughout Europe.
In addition to securely storing their digital identity, the "European digital wallet" will allow users to open bank accounts, make payments and store digital documents, such as a mobile driver's license, a medical prescription, a professional certificate or a travel ticket.
This tool will fully respect the user's choice whether or not to share personal data, will offer the highest degree of security independently certified according to the same standards, and the relevant parts of its code will be published in open source to facilitate the detection of vulnerabilities and provide better protection against misuse, tracking or interception.
