The digital platform for citizen participation We decide has been added to the Register of Digital Public Goods of the Digital Public Goods Alliance (DPGA), a registry that includes 150 initiatives that meet the digital common good standard and guarantee open source principles.
Decidim is software financed mainly with public capital, by the Barcelona City Council and the Generalitat de Catalunya, through the General Directorate of Good Governance, Innovation and Democratic Quality of the Department of the Presidency. From the very beginning it has been designed to be an open license tool available to any person or organization that wants to promote digital democracy projects.
The DPGA is a multi-stakeholder initiative endorsed by the United Nations Secretary-General that works to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in low- and middle-income countries by facilitating the discovery, development, use and investment in digital public goods.
The goal of the DPGA and its registry is to promote digital public goods to create a more equitable world. Being recognized as a "digital public good" increases the visibility, support and importance of open projects that have the potential to address global challenges. To become a digital public good all projects must meet the DPG Standard to ensure that projects truly encapsulate the principles of open source.
Let's decide Catalonia, citizen participation in the local world
Currently the local bodies of the demarcations of Lleida and Tarragona have instances of Decidim through the Decidim Catalunya project and service of the same name.
The objective is to offer the local world a comprehensive "turnkey" service that includes technological aspects and support in the management of participatory processes. The role of the AOC is to provide the technological service of We decide Catalonia, make it available to local bodies that wish to do so, offer technical support and carry out the developments that guarantee its evolution according to needs.
The tasks of advice, training and support in the participation processes for administrations with fewer resources are carried out through the Provincial Councils, the Generalitat de Catalunya itself and Localret, with a shared governance model. These tasks are essential for the success of citizen participation initiatives.
How to request the registration of the service
To apply for enrollment in the Decidim Catalunya service, you must go to EACAT procedures, to the provider Consorci AOC, Service CAOC – Request for services, to the “Application for registration and modification of AOC services” procedure.
