The digital maturity of town halls is reducing their spending on office supplies per capita

The degree of development in e-government of a city council decreases its expenditure on office supplies per capita. This is shown by a comparative study between the Digital Maturity Index of all the city councils of Catalonia and their expenditure on office supplies during the year 2020.
The Digital Maturity Index assesses the level of digitization and open governance of local governments through a set of more than 30 indicators organized in three dimensions:
The availability of digital public services that allow citizens to exercise their digital rights.
The activity of the digital services of processing with the citizenship, internal management and interoperability.
The implementation of open government principles: transparència, right of access, open data, accountability and participation.
The AOC has compared the values of the Digital Maturity Index of the Catalan municipalities during 2020 with its per capita expenditure on office supplies during the same year, using a logarithmic scale to take into account the large difference in magnitude existing between the different organisms.
Comparison between the per capita expenditure of a city council and its Digital Maturity Index
The result shows a clear relationship between the two variables with a negative slope indicating that municipalities with a higher IMD tend to have a lower expenditure on office supplies per capita. The relationship found is statistically significant and accounts for 10,94% of the total variability of the data.
