The guide "Challenges and opportunities of 5G in municipalities”Aims to provide the local administrations of Catalonia, and also the operators who deploy the infrastructure and services, with an element that helps and facilitates the extension of the service to municipalities, cities and towns throughout the country. It is a didactic guide to clarify doubts and make it easier for 5G and the opportunities it brings to reach all citizens in a tidy, efficient and transparent way.
The document provides an overview of the issues of interest to municipalities. Issues such as what 5G offers, technological aspects, legal aspects, the requirements for the deployment of the network and the impacts that 5G will have, both on municipal management and on citizens and companies.
The report is very aware that the municipal reality in Catalonia is very diverse, which is why it also provides a series of recommendations according to the type of municipality. In this sense, the study incorporates the results of a survey conducted by Localret on the current deployment of fiber optics and mobile telephony based on data obtained from 444 municipalities. This allows us to know actions and perceptions about the future deployment of 5G and make a classification based on demand, telecommunications infrastructure already deployed and specific components (territorial, economic singular or negative deployment).
