The AOC participates in a European pilot of interoperability of verified credentials between city councils and universities

The AOC is participating in the European Blockchain Services Infrastructure initiative of the European Commission which aims to promote the empowerment of citizens with the control of their personal data and the interoperability of verified credentials between European countries. 30 public or private bodies of more than 19 nationalities are taking part in this project.

Specifically, the AOC is promoting the use of interoperability of verified credentials of European students in order to access discounts on public services of Catalan municipalities. And it is also working on the interoperability of credentials of the municipal register of inhabitants and the concessionary companies of water management to obtain the bonuses addressed to the cohabitation units of 4 or more members. The Catalan councils that collaborate are El Prat de Llobregat, Sant Feliu de Llobregat, Tarragona, Valls and Viladecans.

Participants with the most advanced developments were able to present their solution at the meeting of the European Blockchain Partnership and the European Commission on December 10, 2021. The AOC, together with the technology partner ValidatedID, presented a proof of concept that is, right now, one of the leading implementationseres in Europe within the framework of the EBSI project.

In the following video you can see the demonstration of the use cases developed which includes:

  • initial registration through VALID authentication with a idCAT Mobile (digital onboarding)
  • the generation of a verified identity credential from VALID authentication with a idCAT Phone
  • authentication in a public service using the verified digital identity credential
  • obtaining a verified credential from the municipal population register
  • the use of the verified credential of the census to request a rebate on the water tariff
