The ACM publishes the "Cybersecurity Guide for municipalities and local bodies"

The Catalan Association of Municipalities (ACM) has published the Cybersecurity Guide for Town Councils and local entities, a publication aimed at local administrations in general, as well as technicians working there and local elected officials.

The aim of the publication is to prevent and protect public administrations from cyber attacks and to raise awareness of the importance of processing the data of citizens.

The guide is divided into three areas:

  • The first part is aimed at the general public: the user can learn the basics of cybersecurity and what recommendations to follow.
  • The second part, aimed at elected officials, gives a more executive view and focuses on more practical knowledge focused on such profiles.
  • The third and final part is aimed at technicians who work for town halls or public institutions, and who are responsible for implementing many of the configurations and security policies.

The elaboration of this guide has had the indications and the advice of theCatalonia Cybersecurity Agency, with which it wants to initiate a series of actions of sensitization, prevention and divulging of the mechanisms of prevention of cyberattacks, that in the last years have intensified in the local administrations. In addition, in a common telework environment by many public workers and the use of hardware and software outside of their corporate headquarters, these risks and attacks have increased exponentially.
