The Catalan Data Protection Authority (ACPDCAT) celebrated, electronically, the re-edition of the conference 'Update and experiences on key points of the General Data Protection Regulation (RGPD)' in response to the high demand for places he received on the occasion of the first edition.
The conference delved into key aspects of the GDPR such as: transparència and the right to information, the legitimization of processing of special categories of data and the notification of security breaches.
The director of the Catalan Data Protection Authority (APDCAT) M. Ángels Barbarà, presented the event and emphasized the importance of the RGPD in the current context of technological innovation: "in a data-driven and globalized society, the RGPD regulates obligations to guarantee the principles, values, rights and freedoms that make up the democratic societies". Barbarà highlighted the RGPD as "a sufficiently strong legal framework to protect the right to data protection" and as the instrument that "gives us sufficiently flexible tools to design technology with an eye placed in people and in the common good". "If technology advances using our data, it must do so, necessarily, guaranteeing our rights and freedoms", concluded Barbarà.
The data protection delegate and head of Strategic Projects of the APDCAT also spoke at the conference, Joana Marí, who focused his presentation on the principle of transparència and the right to information to achieve the objectives of the GDPR, placing special emphasis on the need for the information provided to people to allow them to control their data.
The head of the APDCAT Legal Advice, Santiago Farré, gave some insights to the participants on the processing of special categories of data, detailing the modifications derived from the approval of Organic Law 3/2018 of December 5, as well as some of the latesteres most relevant judicial decisions in this matter.
The day was concluded by the head of the Inspection and Technical Area of the APDCAT, Blanca Peraferrer which discussed the obligation of those responsible for the processing of personal data to notify security breaches to the control authorities, an issue incorporated by the new RPGD that generates numerous inquiries at the APDCAT.
