Identifying yourself digitally with the Catalan public administrations to carry out procedures online is now much easier with the service idCAT Mobile, an alternative user identification and electronic signature system to digital certificates. While digital certificates must be installed in the browser, theidCAT Mobile it is based on sending single-use passwords to the mobile phone at the time the person is processing online.
THEidCAT Mobile is a secure and free system that does not require the installation of any software or remember any password. In addition, it does not expire in time and allows you to identify and sign from any mobile, tablet or computer. The electronic signatures produced have legal value and are suitable for procedures with a medium level of security.
How to get it
Who wants to have theidCAT Mobile must be registered in less than one minute through the idCat Mobile website or in person at citizen service offices of the Generalitat de Catalunya, business management offices and idCAT registration entities. To register you must be an individual and over 16 years old.
When registering on the website, the citizen only has to inform of their date of birth, the DNI number and the bar code of the CatSalut Health Card. The data is checked instantly in an identification process. Next, you need to register your cell phone number and email address. Once registered, the user can request a single-use password each time they want to access their information or process it using the idCAT Mobile system. The password is sent as a text message to the mobile phone (SMS) and is valid for 30 minutes.
The two identification systems before the Administration (idCAT Mobile and idCAT digital certificate) are independent and fully compatible. Therefore, if a user already has one of the two systems, it does not imply the modification of the data nor the cancellation of the other. Citizens can request both identification services and use them according to the procedure they need to do. The data that the user delivers when registering is stored in the file Electronic office of the Administration of the Generalitat de Catalunya, which is owned by the General Directorate of Citizen Services of the Department of the Presidency.
Security in data transmission, a key aspect
Once the user has registered electronically at theidCAT Mobile, you can access your personal folder or manage a procedure through a data authentication process through the identity validation system VALID offered by the Consorci Administració Oberta de Catalunya to Catalan public administrations. This system guarantees the identity of users and the confidentiality of the data exchanged.
The system validates if the person is registered in the file of the Electronic Office of the Administration of the Generalitat, verifying the information provided (NIF and mobile number). If the validation operation is successful, a message is sent to the mobile phone (SMS) with a one-time password, which is valid for 30 minutes.

Generic requests can also be made, ie anyone can submit a request, written or request on any matter, electronically, which is not included in the catalog of procedures that can be managed through the gencat.cat website. .
