The general director of Citizen Services, Jordi Graells, stated during the celebration of the first Drinks & Data, that thedata opening o openness of knowledge it is an incentive for economic development and translates into improved governance, a new form of public management that is based on e-government and e-democracy.
Graells has been the guest of the first Drinks & Data, a proposal forBarcelona Open Data Initiative (IBOD) that brings together those peopleeresknowledge in open data and the use that can be made of it at a social, citizen and economic level.
Graells explained that the opening of knowledge is a broad concept that integrates free and open source software, open access to scientific knowledge and open data. In fact, data is already the basis of the Internet economy and open data is defined as the process by which organizations make the data they have available to citizens and businesses so that they can benefit from it. generating information and knowledge or developing new services or products.
The Administration faces six major challenges in opening up knowledge: standardizing the regulation of access to public information, making websites compatible transparència with other public information systems, relate open data to citizen participation and collaboration, normalize the opening and reuse of data and make it more visible to society, raise awareness of the potential of open data and avoid the concentration of power in the elites.
