Digital technologies offer a lot of opportunities for citizens and businesses. From being able to buy or study online, to paying bills or using public services over the Internet: the network is the solution, as long as the appropriate conditions are met. This is the conclusion he offers the new indicator of Economy and Digital Society, developed by the European Commission from more than 30 relevant indicators of the development of digital Europe.

Specifically, the new indicator Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI) shows us data, by country, on the connectivity (how widespread, fast and affordable broadband is), the Internet knowledge use of online stocks from news services to Internet shopping, the integration of digital technology (electronic invoicing, cloud services, e-commerce, etc.) and digital public services, including e-government (e-government) and e-health services.

Digital Economy and Society Index

Considering digital public services, the indicator shows that they are a day-to-day reality in some countries but instead there are others in which they practically do not exist. 33% of European Internet users have used online forms to send information to public authorities, ranging from 69% in Denmark to 6% in Romania. Spain reaches 37%.

In order to track the progress of the indicator, one has been published listing for each Member State. To card corresponding to Spain, it can be seen how Spain stands out in the digital public services dimension, with a score of 0,65, ranking 6th among EU countries.

It also highlights that Spain's results have improved faster than the EU average, placing it, in the general calculation, in 12th place among the 28 EU member states.

It should be noted that the digital index is particularly relevant as the European Commission is preparing its digital single market strategy, which will be published in May this year.
