Moving towards a European digital identity
On September 17, the Regulation on Identification and Trusted Services for Electronic Transactions came into force, in compliance with the provisions of “European eGovernment Action Plan"And the"Digital Agenda for Europe ”, repealing Directive 1999/93 / EC.
The approval of this Regulation is the result of a participatory process in which administrations, companies, citizens and regulatory bodies have participated.
The aim of the Regulation is to establish a clear legal framework guaranteeing the cross-border recognition of electronic identities, the interoperability of electronic signatures and other trusted services such as electronic stamps or time stamps, enabling electronic communications between citizens. companies and public administrations and, consequently, increasing the efficiency of public and private online services, e-business and e-commerce in the European Union.
The implementation of this Regulation seeks to strengthen confidence in electronic transactions within the EU framework, by providing the legal tools needed to create a climate of security between citizens, companies and Public Administration.
