In recent years there has been an explosion in the culture of open data around the world and various public organizations, at local, regional and state level have developed open data portals. This has led to a fragmentation of resources, but also of open data standards, which makes open data strategies difficult.
In order to analyze the existing open data catalogs the project was born OpenDataMonitor. Under the framework of the European Commission, seven European entities linked to open data have joined forces and knowledge to create an infrastructure to analyze, harmonize and visualize existing data catalogs.
In this way, OpenDataMonitor allows you to compare different public entities (national and local); point out changes and updates to catalogs; display the quality of metadata and license information; automatically measure the level of openness or classify the available catalogs according to their subject.
The OpenDataMonitor project, which began last November, will complete its work within two years, during which time it will present its progress through the project website, distribution lists, publications, public presentations and events.
