The European Commission has published the digital identity solutions, electronic signature, electronic invoicing, electronic document exchange and machine translation developed in the context of the CEF program (Connecting Europe Facility). This program aims to establish a digital infrastructure that facilitates the provision of public services via the Internet for all European citizens and businesses.
These components have been developed and used by member states in different large-scale pilot projects co-financed by the European Commission (STORK, epSOS, i-CODEX, PEPPOL, Spocs). Its goal is promote electronic communication between different countries of the European Union to consolidate the European single market.
The aim of these solutions is to provide basic modules needed to facilitate the provision of services over the Internet. All solutions are highly reusable as they implement widely established standards. This initiative promotes economies of scale that result in greater efficiency in adapting services to the electronic channel.
