The only constant is change, especially in the world of computing in general, and operating systems in particular. With a great impact on the media in the sector, on April 8, 2014 Microsoft stopped supporting Windows XP. This means that security updates are no longer developed, other issues are not resolved, and no support options related to this operating system are provided. Since then, its users use it at their own risk.
As if that weren't enough, on July 15th Oracle published the latesteres versions of its Java virtual machine, announcing that nor would they support it. As mentioned in their statement, this does not necessarily mean that the new versions of the virtual machine will not work on this operating system, but that Oracle will no longer support any incidents that may be related to it.
The scenario in question has an impact on the services offered by the AOC Consortium related, above all, to electronic signature procedures as these use java applets as a client tool. In order to assess the state of the situation, the Consortium has successfully installed and tested the two versions of the java virtual machine that are no longer supported (jre 7.71 and jre 8.25) with the signature applet. that we provide, and therefore in the short term we can say that our electronic signature tools still work and can be used from Windows XP.
However, we cannot guarantee that this will continue to be the case in the medium or long term, given that the companies that develop the software on which the applets are built have stopped supporting it. For this reason, the AOC Consortium cannot guarantee that any incidents that may arise from now on related to the use of electronic signature tools from the Windows XP system can be resolved.
As much as they have done from Microsoft and Oracle, from the AOC Consortium, we recommend that users use the latest versions of Windows to avoid problems due to obsolescence and lack of support from software companies.
