Photo: Security and Courts.The Ministry of the Interior plans to implement a new version of the electronic DNI by 2016. This is reflected in the Strategic Plan prepared by the General Directorate of Police for the next three years.

The Directorate General also admits that the current electronic DNI has not reached the citizens. “Most have” this identity document, “however, its use is considerably less than expected in a remarkably computerized society like the Spanish one ”. According to the strategic plan, Spaniards must "be willing to make more widespread use of the electronic signature."
