Carlos Galán and Reyes Maroto, from the Carlos III University of Madrid, publish a 'Debate Document' from the Ideas Foundation entitled 'Electronic Government in Europe: Reflections and Proposals'.
We highlight some of the ideas in the document:
- the main reasons for not using electronic public services are lack of need, trust and skills.
- e-government must play a key role in economic development in the coming years.
- the re-use of public sector information is one of the priority areas for action in the EU. England leads this aspect, followed by Spain.
- the regulatory framework on e-government is too voluminous, complex and confusing.
- regulation on e-government made without a prior analysis of its impact leads to non-compliance or very partial compliance.
