La Artificial Intelligence Law (AI) drives the creation of a European single market based on trustworthy, people-centric AI. Its aim is to foster innovation and adoption of these technologies, while ensuring a high level of protection of health, safety and fundamental rights, including democracy and the rule of law.
Within this framework, Article 5 establishes the prohibition of certain particularly harmful and abusive AI practices, which violate essential values of the European Union such as human dignity, freedom, equality and fundamental rights.

These three expert studies are among several sources that the European Commission has taken into account in developing the guidelines on prohibited practices. The process has also incorporated input from a public consultation, contributions from Member States through the AI Council and opinions from the European Parliament.
