Moving towards a European digital identity
In the next elections to the Parliament of Catalonia to be held on February 14, people who wish will be able to carry out the entire voting process without leaving home. The request to vote by post can be made electronically with theidCAT certified, as well as with dother qualified state digital certificates. Once the request for a postal vote has been made electronically, the voting process can be completed by delivering the vote directly to the Correos employee who will go to the home to deliver the documentation.
The application for voting by mail can be made from December 22, 2020 and until February 4, 2021. If you do not yet have the idCAT certificate that will allow you to make this request electronically, you you can report to www.idcat.cat.
Voting from home will be possible thanks to the agreement reached by the Generalitat de Catalunya and Correos. For its part, the Central Electoral Board (JEC) has authorized a list of proposed measures that make it possible to exercise the right to vote without leaving home in the elections scheduled for February 14, 2021.
The JEC has decided to remove the signature from the receipt of the electoral documentation, hitherto mandatory, and allow Correos staff to collect the electoral envelope. Therefore, the whole process of exercising the right to vote can be done from home. This means that, at the moment when the Correos employee delivers the electoral documentation, people will be able to give them their vote directly. This is an option that can be enjoyed by all citizens, including cases of positive COVID-19 and people considered close contacts.
